We are recruiting! Our fantastic Pharmacy Department with brand new state of the art technology are seeking an enthusiastic Band 6 Pharmacist to join our rotation. We would love to hear from you if you are newly qualified, a pre-registration pharmacist or looking for a new challenge. 

Here at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust, we can offer you a comprehensive rotation through admissions, medical, including medicine for older people, surgical areas and specialities such as women and children. Working as part of the clinical pharmacy teams, you will be fully supported to further your development. There are 50 pharmacists in the department; 80% of their time is spent on patient-facing care. They are supported by ward-based medicine management technicians and pharmacist assistants. TTO turnaround times are the 6th best nationally and patient care metrics are some of the best in the country, we have so much to be proud of here at Portsmouth Hospitals and as a growing team, it would be great to have you on board.

 

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Supervising the dispensing of medicines within legal and ethical requirements and local guidelines to ensure that patients receive the correct medications in a timely manner.
  • Applying pharmaceutical knowledge, skill and judgement to prescription screening, to ensure that medicines are used safely, cost effectively and within local guidelines.
  • Providing clinical pharmacy services to agreed standards in accordance with service level agreements.
  • Offering pharmaceutical and therapeutic advice at all stages of the drug use process to ensure patient safety and optimal individualised pharmaceutical care.
  • Undertaking vocational training to develop knowledge and skills in a wide range of aspects of hospital pharmacy.
  • Applying pharmaceutical knowledge to the receiving and answering of medicines information enquiries to ensure that answers are given promptly and that the information provided is factually correct and relevant to the question asked.
  • Counselling patients and carers to ensure they have sufficient understanding of how to take their medicines.
  • Participating in and contributing to departmental audits.
  • Treating all individuals  with courtesy and showing consideration for patient’s privacy and at all times to ensure that pharmacy is regarded as a caring organisation.
  • Participating in the Band 6 rotation to ensure development of a wide range of experience in hospital pharmacy services, rotating through different specialities.

 

Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters degree in Pharmacy plus one year’s pre-registration training
  • Membership of General Pharmaceutical Council

 

Desirable

  • Previous Hospital experience
  • Experience in voluntary sector
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
